Job Summary

This is an opportunity for someone with no previous qualifications in Business or Customer service, to gain their first foothold in their career.

Working in a small, busy office, you will support the purchasing, sales, production, and management staff in general office duties. You will have the opportunity to gain a wide range of skills and knowledge, and as part of a small team you will need to be flexible to help in different tasks.

We are a successful subcontract engineering company with an award-winning apprenticeship scheme, and our apprentices take a very active role in our business and are an integral part of the team.

This is a 13-month contract during which you will gain experience, knowledge and a qualification, to enable you to take your next step in your career. On completion, there may be the opportunity to continue with us on a level 3 standard for a further two years.

Responsibilities and Duties

You will be required to answer the phone, book in visitors and issue them with PPE, telephone staff and put calls and other information through to them. You will also learn how to help Purchasing and Sales functions through assisting with documentation, scanning, copying, filing, and in time learning how to deal with sales and purchase enquiries. There will be general office work such as making drinks, helping staff get stationery and other items, and generally assisting.

Depending on your abilities and interests, you could progress to training in Accounts, or other areas of the business.

The apprenticeship is a level II, 13-month contract, during which time you will gain an NVQ qualification. Full training will be given for all tasks at work, and you will also attend a local college for additional learning.

Qualifications and Skills

The successful candidate will be able to show initiative and a strong work ethic - perhaps through academic performance or extra-curricular activity, or part-time work - and will be keen to learn and enthusiastic about their career.

We are looking for a brilliant communicator, who can meet and greet customers in a friendly manner, and have the confidence to speak on the phone.

Excellent numeracy, literacy, and ICT skills are important for this role, and you should have at least grade Cs or equivalent in GCSE Maths, English, and ICT.

Attention to detail, smart appearance, and professional conduct are essential. You should understand the importance of a professional business environment, and be discrete and confidential.


Salary: £6,916.00 to £8,892.00 /year, based on a 38-hour week.
